Solvent Exit Analysis (SEA)

We’re supporting many clients with the preparation of their Solvent Exit Analysis (SEA) document and can share relevant best practice. Specialising in small and medium sized banks means that we know how to tailor the process so that it is appropriate for a bank’s business model, structure, operations, risk strategy, and circumstances.

Key Activities

To produce the SEA document you need to plan for ‘stressed’ and ‘non-stressed’ scenarios. This can be particularly challenging because it requires input from across the firm as individual departments have an in-depth understanding of their unique processes, dependencies and resources. To help with this and other requirements we’ve developed a robust service model to provide our clients with a bespoke and fit for purpose SEA.

  • Capture relevant financial data about your business including products, teams, markets and key dependencies. To do this effectively, we use a combination of structured meetings and data templates and work collaboratively with your teams to define key assumptions and inputs. Potential solvent exit scenarios are explored in facilitated and interactive workshops with internal SMEs and senior management.

  • High level financial projections are prepared, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cashflows during a solvent exit. These are included in a draft SEA document that includes governance arrangements; possible triggers to initiate a wind-down; barriers and threats; risk metrics and indicators; management information; key operational steps; financial and non-financial resources; and communications strategies.

  • The draft SEA document is discussed with relevant committees, such as the Executive Committee and Board Risk Committee. Feedback and comments are then absorbed into a final SEA document which is presented to your Board for the final level of governance and approval.
